On Tuesday 18th December the Youth Club team hosted a special WYC awards evening at the Peace Centre for members of our Open Access group.

The staff team had chosen various different categories, before voting on who they thought deserved the award. For example ‘Most Competitive”, “Biggest Comedian”, “Console Kid” along with many others.

Special guests for the evening were Tongan forwards Sitaleki Akauola and Ben Murdoch-Masila from the Warrington Wolves who presented all the winners with a special laminated certificate before staying behind to sign autographs and have photos with the young people.

They were later given a guided tour of the club by our members and even took part in some basketball, badminton and pool against the young people. Some of the special awards to be given out were the annual WYC Pool League which is a youth club tradition and has been running for over 10 years.

The Rea Muir award (in memory of a former senior member) to a young person with a minor disability who was a regular at the club, This was presented by Rea’s mum and dad and her boyfriend.
There was a category for our young volunteer of the year, to recognise the amazing contribution that they give to us and the young people.

Finally there was a special presentation to staff member Serena who has worked with the organisation for over 2 & half years who was leaving us for pastures new. This was presented by a young person who also read out an emotional tribute and presented Serena with a framed copy of her speech.
