We’re delighted to launch our virtual Cycle Challenge to take place between 19th and 31st October, as part of the Cash for Kids Sports Challenge, to raise funds to help us re-open the Junction Gym and deliver sports and physical activity for young people.
To celebrate our 85th Birthday this year, we’re looking for teams of friends/colleagues/family to tackle 85 kms or 8.5 kms between them, or you could do it individually, and we need to raise as much money as we can, as a prize of £5,000 is on offer from Cash for Kids for the charity that raises the most! We’re also delighted that every £1 raised will be matched by the Hoppy Trust, up to £5,000.
There’s no limit to team size, and you can cycle on any day(s) that you want to during the challenge period, and we’re asking each team member to donate £10, and then raise sponsorship from friends and family.
At the start of lockdown, the Club was forced to close The Junction, which is the only dedicated young person’s health facility in Warrington. Located in the town centre, The Junction is equipped with a range of cardio, resistance and free-weight machines and is open to young people aged 7-19 (up to 25 with additional needs). From here, the team delivers a varied schedule of weekly classes and group fitness sessions to improve young people’s physical health, develop their confidence, and crucially offer a trusted adult role model to talk to.
Covid has had a devastating effect on young people, and re-opening The Junction will enable 250 young people aged under 18, many of whom are disadvantaged and vulnerable, to have a safe space to come to.
